Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming up on its fourth anniversary following its launch in November , and believe it or not, the Xbox One game continues to get exciting new updates. The first of these is the previously teased “Match Composer,” which lets you have greater control over the games and modes you play beyond the existing game- and mode-specific playlists that currently populate the hopper. In the latest Halo Community Update , developer shared an image of what the Match Composer looks like.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection November update includes Match Composer The Master Chief Collections matchmaking issues likely stem from the fact that.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a compilation of first-person shooter video games in the Halo series , originally released in November for the Xbox One , and later on Microsoft Windows through and The collection was developed by Industries in partnership with other studios and was published by Xbox Game Studios. Each game in the Master Chief Collection received a graphical upgrade, with Halo 2 receiving a complete high-definition redesign of its audio and cutscenes that is exclusive to the collection.
The game includes access to the live-action series Halo: Nightfall as well as the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta that was available for a limited time. The collection’s multiplayer features every map originally released with each game, including six Halo 2 maps remade from the ground up. Critics generally praised The Master Chief Collection for its updated audio and visuals, as well as its quantity of content, but criticized its multiplayer aspects due to a significant number of bugs and poor matchmaking experiences.
Many of these technical issues were later fixed in post-release patches.

may not be appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work. Don’t warn me again for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
I can’t quite say this is the one I’ve been waiting for —that’s Halo 3—but Halo 2 joined the Master Chief Collection on PC Tuesday night, and it’s an ideal place to start really devoting time to Halo’s online multiplayer. It’s still fun, but not a game I’d dump hours of time into. Halo 2, even after 15 years, feels just deep enough. It’s still the kind of multiplayer game that can demands precision aiming, tight teamwork, and intricate map knowledge to master.
This is the moment on PC many Halo fans have been waiting for and after a few hours of testing I can say that if you plan to jump in now, be prepared to run into some bugs. As I wrote in my feature on Industries’ journey to bring the Halo series back to PC , there are some significant features still absent from the Master Chief Collection. Alternate keybinds are coming in a future update, and the developers are continuing to work on issues around screen tearing, which I ran into while testing Halo 2’s campaign.
Halo Reach’s audio issues remain, and are taking a long time to fix. Halo 2 doesn’t exhibit identical problems, though its audio isn’t perfect, either. I tested Halo 2 on a low-end system with a GTX Ti graphics card still roughly twice as powerful as the minimum spec stated on Steam , while hardware writer Jorge Jimenez tested on a much more powerful rig, with an RTX Super.
On my system, even with the framerate limited to 60 fps, VSync on, and trying fullscreen and borderless windowed, I saw screen tearing that proved distracting.
I’m using the Steam version of Halo Master Chief Collection on PC, which requires that the user be signed in to Xbox Live services to use online features like matchmaking. When I try to use those features after signing in, though, it tells me that I’m not signed in to Xbox Live, and cannot access matchmaking. I was able to get into custom games with my friends earlier this evening, and they were able to matchmake before I joined the party, but after I joined they stopped being able to do matchmaking, and we had to switch to custom games.
After they left, I tried matchmaking on my own only to discover this issue. I tried restarting the game, then verifying my game files on Steam, which didn’t help.

Sometimes sifting through playlists for multiplayer games is annoying, hopping between modes and whatnot with no way to just matchmake to your convenience. Four years after its release, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is developing just the solution: a “mix tape” feature, wherein players can set specific preferences and matchmake into games with those in place without the multiple playlist surfing.

Even with a new Halo now on the horizon, Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s steady improvements have made it a far more desirable package over the years.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is about to get some major updates that will drastically rework code and improve functionality, courtesy of a small team within Industries dedicated solely to supporting old Halo games. Normally this would be good – if somewhat expected – news. What makes this particular turn of events notable is that it’s currently February , more than three years on from Halo: MCC’s original release date of November 11, It’s not like this hasn’t been coming for awhile, either.
MCC was famously lambasted for unreliable matchmaking, sluggish performance, and general clunky bugginess. So what’s on the docket for the future?
As promised, Industries deployed a number of server updates this morning to help improve online matchmaking in Halo: The Master Chief.
Originally developed by Bungie Studios, a division of Xbox Game Studios and managed by Industries, Halo is a military science fiction series in the form of video game that was originally launched in , highlighting an interstellar war between the humanity and an alliance of aliens called the Covenant. The latest release of the game on March 3, , has indeed intrigued and excited the keen players.
With the fancy campaign graphics of the Xbox Anniversary remake, along with multiplayer matchmaking and other perks of the Master Chief Collection, developers did a surprise launch of the new edition with no pre-launch announcement, though there were hints and hubbubs in the gaming world. The original PC version still has an active player-base- thanks to modding and mapmaking scene.
The MCC version does not have a server browser like the old PC version or come with any mod tools to help modders along. In addition to the new cool features, there has been some fixing done to the bugs and other types of problems that were being faced in the older version.
Xbox Matchmaking services would find you a match but the notification might get lost on the way to the system and then the game title itself would never see it. Under the old model the system software was the authority on who was connected to who and how This gives the title and us a lot more control over party management. So basically, it used to be that MCC relied on your Xbox One’s software to decide who and how you connected to other players.
With this update, the game will handle those processes, thus putting more control into ‘s hands and strengthening connections. Ideally, this would mean things like custom game session browsing, as well as Xbox Arena and Mixer support.
Cross-play means that players across Xbox consoles and Windows PC will be able to play together. Input-based matchmaking and keyboard and mouse support enhance that. Keyboard and mouse support, of course, gives console players the option to use the peripherals. Mouse and keyboard support was added to Xbox One in , but it remains available on a game-by-game basis. Halo: Combat Evolved , Halo 2 , and Halo 3 have since been added to the collection.
Nice to see that Master Chief Collection matchmaking is still just as bad now as it was at launch. [deleted]. 0. 11 Share. 11 Comments sorted byBest. Log in or.
Reach is good, but ODST is on a whole other level. It’s a four-player co-op survival-fest with no equipment–just your wits, your weapons management skills, and silenced 2x scope pistol. Halo 3’s weapons are coming over to Firefight. This is a big, big deal that adds a new dimension of play. What could it be? This is also a big deal.
You always had to set up teams and invite people in order to play Firefight online with friends. Custom Firefight will also be a thing. Now the big question is whether or not gamers can keep the original ODST settings–no BR55HB, no wacky effects, etc–in online matchmaking, or if we’ll be stuck with the new features. Either way, this is a tremendously exciting time for hardcore Firefight fans like myself. Players are going to be able to look forward to ODST’s Firefight which will include all of the legacy content, meaning all 10 maps, all of the classic settings, variations, and then some.
